  How We Do It:
Aquatic Survival Skills are taught by using methods developed by the Founder of Infant Swimming Resource (ISR) , Dr. Harvey Barnett. Dr. Barnett began his life’s work and commitment to child drowning prevention in 1966 and ISR has evolved into the comprehensive training program that it is today. We are the most effective training program due to our methods being based in Child Psychology, Learning Theory, Physiology, and Behavioral Sciences.

ISR Instructors are the most highly trained and qualified instructors in any swimming program in the country and must undergo strict recertification testing annually. Each instructor is academically trained and tested in areas such as child psychology, physiology, anatomy and behavioral science to provide the safest lesson possible for your child. In addition, each instructor spends a minimum of 60 hours hands on, supervised in-water training working with actual students.

What your child will learn:

A baby from 6 months to 12 months (Floater) will learn how to hold their breath underwater, roll onto their back and float unassisted until someone rescues them. A child over the age of 1 year (Swimmer) will learn the Swim-Float-Swim Sequence whereas they will learn how to hold their breath underwater, swim head down, roll onto their back to float, rest and breathe; then roll back over to resume swimming until they reach the side of the pool where they can hold onto the side or crawl out on their own. Once your child has learned their self-rescue skills, they will will complete a survival checklist in various layers of clothing. After accomplishing these skills in a bathing suit/swim diaper, children will then practice their skills in summer clothing and then progress onto winter clothing completing their survival checklist. This additional work is critical to survival swimming because most children who find themselves in the water alone are fully clothed.
